Blood Thirsty Monkeys Defined: The Purpose of This Blog

I was riding down the road with my 7 year old son one day and the conversation went like this…

“Dad, can I share something with you?”

“Yes, son.  Of course.”

“If there is one thing that I have learned in life is that if you own a monkey, make sure you don’t own a bloodthirsty monkey….just own a regular monkey.”

Logan was sharing an obvious fact, but at the same time, he was also checking with me to make sure that he knew what he knew.  Leadership learning is the same way.  Some lessons become clear with experience, thought or reflection.  The truth reveals itself.  But the obvious is not always so obvious.  And it is always good to take it to someone else to check if you know what you know.

In no way do these comments represent my employer.  My thoughts do not represent any company nor are they considered any part of my day job.  The opinions expressed in this blog are mine and mine alone.
